Stone steps have two main components: treads and risers. A tread (the part that is stepped on) normally overlaps the riser beneath it, finished with a bullnose edge.
York Stone is the recommended material for external steps, due to its good wear resistance, while Portland stone is another popular choice.
We hold stocks of these materials in block form, and can create all forms of bespoke architectural masonry to your precise requirements in our Cambridge workshops.
A comprehensive fixing service is available, or we can work to your specification on a supply only basis.
